“It has been said that evil triumphs when man is silent; evil triumphed on Texas soil and Dan Patrick was silent,” said Mike Collier, the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor at a news conference at the Fort Worth Convention Center, kicking off the party’s biennial state convention.
“He had several days to search his soul as to what to do about this crisis on the border and he chose to spare his political neck rather than spare these families and young children from the trauma and horror that they experienced,” Collier said “Only after the immediate crisis passed did Dan Patrick say anything. This is the very face of cowardice.”
“Dan Patrick proves again and again that he is not cut from the same moral fiber that Texans are,” Collier said. “He doesn’t share our values of compassion and empathy. Dan Patrick is just simply not one of us and he is not fit to lead.”
Patrick didn’t comment until after President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday to end the recent practice of separating children from family members when they are detained for illegally crossing the border.
