RELEASE: Democratic Candidate for Texas Lt. Governor Mike Collier Announces Key Campaign Hires

Raises $1.6 Million for 2022 Campaign Cycle

Austin, Texas — With a fundraising total of more than $1.6 million in 2021, Collier’s campaign enters 2022 with a seasoned campaign team and significant resources to mount a competitive race to unseat Dan Patrick.

Today, Collier announced Houston native and Democratic operative Erin Mincberg Spiegel as Senior Strategist.  Most recently she served as District Director for Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District in Houston. Immediately prior, she served as Campaign Manager for Fletcher’s successful 2018 campaign to unseat nine-term incumbent John Culberson and oversaw Fletcher’s successful 2020 reelection against the National Republican Campaign Committee’s best funded challenger.  Mincberg Spiegel brings 15 years of Democratic experience, including serving as National Finance Director for California Attorney General Kamala Harris, and launching the campaigns of Kamala Harris for U.S. Senate and Congresswoman Katie Porter, who unseated Republican incumbent Mimi Walters in 2018. She began her career working with campaigns across Houston and Harris County.

Collier also named Ali S. Zaidi, a Fort Bend County native and graduate of The University of Texas, as Campaign Manager. Zaidi is a veteran of the 2018 Collier campaign and spearheaded the rural strategy that saw the best performance by any Democrat on the ticket in ⅔ of Texas counties. Following the 2018 race, Zaidi served as the Communications Director for State Representative Trey Martinez Fischer in the State Capitol before returning to the Collier campaign in 2021.

Texas Democratic Candidate for Lt. Governor Mike Collier issued the following statement:

“This team will bring the fight straight to Dan Patrick across all 254 counties in Texas. Erin brings a track record of electing Democrats in traditionally-Republican strongholds, and Ali has a depth of knowledge about the people of this state and our state government.  They are true Texans who know the issues that resonate across the ideological and geographic spectrums of our state. This campaign has the resources and the experience to defeat Dan Patrick and take back our state and I’m thrilled that their considerable talents and insight will lead this team as we work to bring honest, capable leadership to the office of Lt. Governor. ”

Mike Collier is a lifelong businessman and energy expert from Houston, Texas. In 2018, he ran the closest race for Lt. Governor in twenty years against Dan Patrick, outperforming the rest of the Democratic ticket in two thirds of Texas counties.
